On July 31, 2024, National Heritage Insurance Company ( NHIC ) was placed in liquidation by the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois (case number 2024 CH 05836). Ann Gillespie, Director of Insurance of the State of Illinois, was affirmed as NHIC s statutory and court-affirmed Liquidator. The Agreed Order for Liquidation was entered upon the consent of NHIC s Board of Directors. By Illinois law, the Director may appoint a Special Deputy Receiver to administer the receivership. Jacob Stuckey and the Office of the Special Deputy Receiver have been appointed to assist Director Gillespie in the day-to-day administration of the liquidation proceedings. On August 26, 2024, the court supervising the liquidation proceedings entered an Order establishing deadlines and procedures for the filing of claims against the assets of the estate of NHIC (the "Claim Filing Order"). Notice of the Claim Filing Order (the "Notice") was sent to all persons and entities which NHIC's books and records revealed had or may have claims against NHIC, its property or assets, or against an insured or policyholder of NHIC (the "Potential Claimants"). The Notice informed Potential Claimants that proofs of claim must be received by the Liquidator no later than July 31, 2025, and that for those Potential Claimants having contingent claims, evidence supporting the liquidation of such claims by actual payment must be received by the Liquidator no later than October 31, 2025.
On September 29, 2025, the Liquidator sent a request to the United States Department of Justice for the issuance of a release of potential federal claims against NHIC. |
